Interested in teaching Group Exercise?

Fitness and Wellness is looking to hire more Group Exercise instructors to start this Summer.  We are in need of cycle instructors and instructors with primary certifications (who can teach strength training, step aerobics, and cardio kickboxing).  Cycle instructors will need to be Spinning certified.  The Primary Group Exercise certifications we generally accept are ACE and AFAA.  Anything else will be considered on a case by case basis.  If you already have any of these certifications or are willing to go obtain these certifications, please submit an application (located at the bottom of this page) to the Fitness and Wellness Center.  

Position Decriptions

Personal Trainer

Our Personal Trainers provide Personal Fitness instruction to the University community, which may include students, faculty, staff and community members. They work autonomously and develop their own training sessions. They are responsible for providing safe, effective and motivating sessions while maintaining a controlled, yet fun environment. Our Personal Trainers hold internationally recognized certifications and are capable of providing assistance to individuals of varying ability and conditioning levels. Interview and Practical for this position are required. All of our Personal Trainers maintain current CPR/AED certifications. They may also instruct group fitness and Instructional classes for Fitness and Wellness at the ARC if interested and needed. If you are interested in this position and are not yet certified, we occasionally offer an ACE Fitness Leadership Course to help participants prepare for the ACE national certification exam. For certified personal trainers, please submit an application (located at the bottom of this page) to the Fitness and Wellness Center and ignore any "class" questions.

Group Exercise Instructor

Our Group Exercise Instructors teach our group exercise classes which are attended by students, faculty, staff and community members. The instructors choreograph and conduct their own routines and workouts and also provide their own music. The Group Exercise instructors are capable of providing advice and assistance coherent with safety and fitness guidelines. All of our instructors hold an internationally recognized Primary Fitness Certification. All of our Group Exercise Instructors maintain current CPR/AED certifications. We prefer Instructors with prior experience when hiring new Group Exercise Instructors. If you are interested in this position and are not yet certified, we typically offer an ACE Fitness Leadesrhip Course once per year to help participants prepare for the ACE national certification exam. For certified instructors, please submit an application (located at the bottom of this page) to the Fitness and Wellness Center.

Fitness and Wellness Center Attendant/Studio Monitor

Fitness & Wellness Center Attendants work under the direction of the Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness. Job duties include assisting in the management of all daily operations of the Fitness & Wellness Center as well as monitor Fitness & Wellness programs at their respective studios. Specific duties include telephone desk reception, initiate sales, book appointments (Nutrition, Personal Training), assist with group exercise materials, and maintain the Fitness & Wellness Center Resource Library and other administrative duties. Martial Arts Instructor

Our Martial Arts Instructors teach two 90 minute classes per week of the martial arts style in which they specialize. Our instructors must have a Black Belt Degree or the equivalent in ranking system of the format they teach; prior teaching experience is preferred. Instructors are expected to observe participants to determine their physical qualifications and limitations, and to plan and conduct their classes in a manner that meets all participants’ needs. The instructors are capable of providing advice and assistance coherent with safety guidelines, and also are comfortable teaching with beginners. All of our Martial Arts Instructors maintain current CPR/AED certifications. 

Mind-Body Instructor

Our Mind-Body Series Instructors teach 60 or 75 minute classes of one or more of the various Pilates and yoga classes we offer. Instructors must have received certification, such as a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 or a certification through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). The instructors choreograph and conduct their own classes and provide their own music. The instructors are capable of providing advice and assistance coherent with safety guidelines, and also are comfortable teaching with beginners. The instructors observe students to determine physical and technical qualifications and limitations and plan programs to meet students' needs. All of our Mind-Body Instructors maintain current CPR/AED certifications. 

Dance Instructor

Our Dance Series Instructors teach one or more 60 minute classes per week of the various dance classes we offer. Instructors are expected to have at least two years of teaching experience relevant to the class they desire to teach. The instructors choreograph and conduct their own routines and provide their own music. The instructors are capable of providing advice and assistance coherent with safety guidelines, and also are comfortable teaching with beginners. The instructors observe students to determine physical and artistic qualifications and limitations and plan programs to meet students' needs. All of our Dance Instructors maintain current CPR/AED certifications. For certified dance instructors, please submit an application (located at the bottom of this page) to the Fitness & Wellness Center.

Small Group Instructor

Our Small Group Instructors teach one or more of the various small group classes we offer,such as TRX, H.E.A.T. (High Energy Athletic Training), Fit for Fire (Bootcamp in partnership with the UCD Fire Department) and other types of formats. The instructors plan and conduct their own workout routines and provide their own music. The instructors are capable of providing advice and assistance coherent with safety guidelines, and also are comfortable teaching  beginners. The instructors observe participants to determine physical qualifications and limitations and plan programs to meet participants’ individual needs and abilities. All of our Small Group Instructors maintain current CPR/AED certifications and most also work for us as Personal Trainers. A primary certification is required, and we prefer instructors with prior experience and training. However, we are also interested in professionally developing our Personal Trainers and instructors to fill this role.
