The lifeguard position is part of the Department of Campus Recreation and Unions Aquatics program, which supports the academic mission of UC Davis by providing outstanding recreation and leisure experiences and fostering a culture of engagement and community. The Aquatics position goals are to provide experiences that encourage leadership and team work, develop competence in recreation skills, make new friends, enhance participant’s connection to the community and environment and have fun.
Duties include: Guarding at Campus Recreation aquatic facilities and events. Work location is the UC Davis Recreation Pool, Hickey Pool, and some events at the Schaal Aquatics Center. Lifeguards are responsible for providing the safest and most pleasant environment for our patrons. Set up and take down (pool covers, lane lines and trash) for events is included as part of lifeguard responsibilities as well as attending locker room and office area; performing light facility maintenance tasks; and other duties as assigned.
- Current certification in Lifeguard Training from the American Red Cross is mandatory.
- Successful completion of MANDATORY SKILLS TEST is required prior to hiring.
- Applicants must show proof of valid Lifeguard Training certification, First Aid for the Professional Rescuer, and CPR. EMSA/Title 22 certification is preferred. Prior experience in lifeguarding is a plus.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Assistant Director, cashiers will, but are not limited to: use cash register to charge admission; use the online registration system; greet patrons and provide excellent customer service; answer the phone; notify patrons of and enforce facility rules; perform cash in and out procedures and paperwork accurately; maintain supplies and facility; responsible for attending training; aid in the activation of the emergency action place; build and maintain rapport with patrons and other staff members; complete paperwork and assist student manager and other staff as needed.
- Prior experience cashiering or working in an aquatics setting preferred.
- Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to establish a professional rapport with participants, fellow staff and administrators in an energetic and enthusiastic manner.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude, creative energy, and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Must be willing to be subject to a Livescan Fingerprint Background Check.
Oversee and coordinate lifeguard and cashier staff as well as daily operations at Rec and Hickey Pool. Assist the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Student Manager(s) in oversight and implementation of policy and procedures for the pools. This is including but not limited to peer management, equipment inventory, managing emergency drills and situations, providing exceptional customer service, leading staff trainings, and overseeing daily operations. Must have current Lifeguard certification with one quarter of experience, and must possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Oversee and coordinate lifeguard and cashier staff as well as daily operations at Rec and Hickey Pool. This is including but not limited to staff scheduling oversight, acting as the point person for Aquatics activities and staff, peer management, equipment inventory, managing emergency drills and situations, providing exceptional customer service, leading staff trainings, and overseeing daily operations. Must have current Lifeguard certification with one quarter of experience, and must possess strong leadership skills, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills.
