New Aquatic Center – Coming Summer 2019!

UC Davis Campus Recreation is excited to share the news that we are renovating the Recreation (Rec) Pool in order to better meet the aquatic activity needs of the UC Davis student body. The Rec Pool was built in 1966 and sits at the corner of Hutchison and La Rue. Currently, the facility has one large recreation pool with two lap lanes and a diving well.

The new facility features an enhanced Rec Pool, new Competition Pool, renovated locker rooms and a sand volleyball court. We look forward to hosting new Fitness and Wellness classes, both on land and in the pool. The new facility will be fully Wi-Fi enabled and will utilize solar energy to assist with heating.

Why renovate the Recreation Pool?

A renovation became necessary because the facility mechanical systems were no longer practical to operate. In addition, the degradation of the pool bottom and deck surfaces created a serious safety issue. Aquatic facilities on campus are heavily utilized by various student and non-university groups. Campus Recreation programs such as Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports, Fitness and Wellness, Aquatics, Youth Programs and Informal Recreation are often competing for space and time at other campus pools.

This project will provide a much-needed update to a valuable center and make room to add even more activities to the UC Davis Aquatics portfolio in a sustainable way.

Admission Changes

This project will be funded by student fee reserves, student fees will not increase to fund the renovation. On reopening, the new Aquatic Center will be operated as a student-owned facility, directly in line with our other student-funded facilities (ARC, MU and Games Area). Students and members of Campus Recreation will be able to freely access the facility just as they are able to access the ARC. The public and greater community can access the facility by purchasing a day pass or Campus Recreation membership. When the facility opens, the newly expanded ARC will also be completed, making Campus Recreation membership even more enticing.
